Dr. Matthew Merrins focuses on the mechanisms of insulin secretion and pancreatic beta-cell metabolism. His lab is at the forefront of type 2 diabetes research, and the move required precision handling of sensitive instruments critical to ongoing, high-impact scientific work.
Custom Crating for Irreplaceable Equipment
To protect Dr. Merrins’ highly sensitive equipment during transit, we constructed custom crates specifically designed for each device. These included:
High-powered microscopes
A fraction collector
Precision pipette puller
Vibratome
Multi-mode plate reader
Each crate was built on-site by a specialized crating technician using shock-absorbing materials and tailored measurements to ensure stability, protection from vibration, and safe unpacking at the destination.
On-Site Oversight and Coordination
To ensure the operation ran smoothly from start to finish, Matt Siracusa personally provided on-site project management. His responsibilities included:
Working with the dock manager to secure a dedicated loading area for our trucks
Coordinating space for the crating technician to work efficiently and safely
Ensuring all items were labeled according to the lab staff’s preferences, making for a clean, intuitive delivery at Yale
This level of coordination allowed the Merrins Lab team to focus on their research while we handled the logistics with precision and care.
